Sri Lanka: Removing silt and mud gathered in reservoirs and channels in the North, North Central and North West areas commenced

Removing slit and dirt gathered in the Kala wewa, Balalu wewa and the Malawa wewa was commenced under the patronage of Hon. Basil Rohana Rajapaksa, Senior adviser to the President and Minister of Economic Development on August 03 in Anuradhapura.

Government has allocated 3.66 billion rupees to expand the water capacity in irrigation systems through removal of mud and silt. H.E. The President, Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed to take the necessary speedy measures to reconstruct and enhance capacity of reservoirs due to depletion of water levels as a result of drought.

S.M. Chandrasena, Minister of Agrarian Services and wild life , Nimal Siripala de Silva ,Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management, Bandhula Gunawardhana, Minister of Education, Tissa Karaliyadda, Minister of Child Development and Women’s Affairs, Duminda Dissanayake, Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development , Weerakumara Dissanayake, Deputy Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development,W.B. Ekanayake, Deputy Minister of irrigation & Water Management also participated at this occasion.
